The Daily Fact Sheet
House Republicans – and the American people – scored a major victory when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and her Democratic colleagues finally realized they could not defy the will of American families, seniors, and small businesses any longer and removed the outdated bans on offshore and oil shale energy production from its continuing resolution appropriations legislation.
- Even with this victory, neither Republicans nor the American people will back down from their demands for a truly comprehensive approach to bring down fuel costs.
- Democrats still have consistently blocked a vote on the House GOP’s American Energy Act (H.R. 6566), a bill that does not stop at environmentally-responsible drilling alone – but instead does “all of the above.”
- The measure includes critical revenue-sharing agreements that would give states an incentive to allow energy production in their energy reserves, encourages more conservation and efficiency, and creates a renewable energy trust fund that would be financed through drilling revenues from several energy-rich locations in Alaska and far off our shores.
- How much longer will Speaker Pelosi and her Democratic colleagues continue to block consideration of H.R. 6566?
