What is covered?

Do I have to Participate?

No. The EAP is provided as a resource for legal services and to assist employees with difficulties they may be having at work or in their personal lives. While participation in the program may be encouraged, it is entirely voluntary and no employee can be forced to meet with an EAP counselor.

Can I use Administrative Leave?

If you are referred to the EAP by your supervisor, you may be granted administrative leave for the initial counseling session. Any subsequent sessions taken during work hours will be charged to an appropriate leave category (i.e., sick, annual, leave without pay, or accrued compensatory time).

What is my cost?

A total of six sessions per incident are covered at 100% under the NTSB EAP. Each legal consultation will count as one EAP session.

Who is covered?

All employees of the NTSB and their family are covered under the EAP.

How does EAP Work?

If you or a family member has a personal or legal problem, call Family Enterprises, Inc. toll-free at 1-800-334-2178. If it is an emergency, assistance will be available anytime - day or night. In non-emergency situations, a referral to a local Family Enterprises network affiliate is made. When you call the affiliate you will be offered an appointment within two working days. After an assessment, depending on the nature of the problem, the EAP affiliate may provide services or you may be referred to other professionals who may be suited to meet your needs. In the event the EAP affiliate refers you elsewhere, please check the provisions of your health plan for coverage.  Non-emergency legal services are available Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 8:00 pm (ET). In case of a legal emergency, service is available 24 hours a day.

What about confidentiality?

The cornerstone of the EAP is the strict confidentiality that is adhered to regarding all program services. Everyone can be assured that no client information will be disclosed to anyone without the client's written authorization, or within the limits of state and federal laws.

For more information contact Cynthia Lepson, EAP Coordinator, (202) 314-6239.
