National Security
We face threats from elusive and determined enemies who are focused on
causing harm to Americans at home and to our allies and interests overseas.
As your congressman, I am working to see that our men and women in the
Armed Forces have the tools, training, and leadership they need to protect
us here at home and to pursue and defeat our adversaries abroad.
America must remain vigilant and prepared to deal decisively with any
threat. Toward that goal, I support maintaining a strong and well-equipped
military. Further we must also work with our allies and like-minded democracies
to share intelligence and cooperate militarily whenever possible.
I strongly support strengthening and improving efficiency and performance
at the Department of Homeland Security. We need to do more to protect
and defend our borders from intruders, provide for improved critical
infrastructure protections, strengthen transportation security, and provide
better resources for our first responders, local law enforcement agencies,
and the FBI. In fact, I was proud that the first bill passed by the House
of Representatives in the 110th Congress was bipartisan legislation implementing
key 9/11 Commission recommendations that had not been acted upon. Together,
with vigilance, we can continue to protect our nation’s security
and freedom.
