First Federal Savings Opens First Green Bank in Indiana
By WNDU
WNDU, April 21, 2008

While hybrid cars look to be the wave of the future, a local bank spent some greenbacks to go green. First Federal Savings Bank on Edison Road opened the first green bank in the state of Indiana. Everything used to build the new bank, from the countertops to the carpeting and furniture, is environmentally correct.

“We have two windmills -- wind turbines -- that will produce probably 10 to 15 percent of our electricity needs,” said bank president Richard Belcher. “We have solar panels on the roof, of course, which you can't see, which will produce probably ten to twelve percent, depending on the sun, of our needs for electricity.”

There is even grass on the roof.

Congressman Joe Donnelly was on hand for the event, as well as for the unique ribbon cutting ceremony. The ribbon was actually 500 dollars in cash that is being donated to the Center for the Homeless.
