WASHINGTON — After only a month on the job, the new 2nd District congressman from Indiana said he should not be allowed to increase his salary.
Rep. Joe Donnelly voted last week against a bill that would have upped his salary by 2 percent, a raise that represents a cost of living adjustment.
“I, and my colleagues in Congress, don’t need a pay raise right now, but the American worker does. While Congress continues to work to get our country’s fiscal house in order and ensure that workers are paid a fair minimum wage, blocking the congressional pay raise is just the right thing to do, and it makes fiscal sense.”
The adjustment is automatic unless members of Congress block the raise. |
