SAFETY REVIEW OF NORTHERN INDIANA COMMUTER TRAIN OPERATIONS TO BE SUBJECT OF NTSB MEETING

The National Transportation Safety Board will hold a public meeting next Tuesday, August 10 at 9:30 a.m., at its headquarters building, 490 L’Enfant Plaza, S.W., Washington D.C., 5th floor meeting room .

One item is on the agenda:

The Safety Board’s safety review of the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD). The report evaluates safety elements of the NICTD operation and possible improvements. The report does not address specific issues associated with the June 18, 1998 train and truck collision at a private grade crossing, which was addressed at its July 21 board meeting.

The meeting room is lit for television and has an audio mult box.

*** Please note that the 490 L’Enfant Plaza entrance is closed due to major construction. The 470 L’Enfant Plaza entrance is open. The construction has disrupted traffic around the building and may affect television trucks parked outside the building but should not affect pedestrian traffic or access to the parking garage beneath the building.
