STATEMENT BY NTSB CHAIRMAN JIM HALL ON THE INVESTIGATION OF AMERICAN AIRLINES FLIGHT 1420

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The following statement was released today by National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Jim Hall:

“The National Transportation’s Safety Board’s investigation of the crash of American Airlines flight 1420 is being conducted under the Board’s standard procedures. There is no separate probe being conducted by the NTSB of American Airlines.

“In any accident where operational issues are involved, we review past accidents and incidents as standard practice, and will do so during the course of the flight 1420 investigation. Reports that the Board is conducting any examination as an outgrowth of our on-going accident investigation are incorrect.

“American Airlines flight 1420 crashed while landing at Little Rock, Arkansas, on June 1, killing the captain and 10 passengers. The Board’s investigation of that accident is expected to be concluded in 9 months to a year.”
