NTSB BOARD MEETS TO DISCUSS 2 FINAL REPORTS: CHARTER PLANE CRASH IN MONTROSE, COLORADO AND FREIGHT TRAIN DERAILMENT IN WEST VIRGINIA
The National Transportation Safety Board holds a public Board meeting Tuesday, June 29, at 9:30 a.m., at its headquarters building, 490 L’Enfant Plaza, S.W., Washington, D.C., 5th floor meeting room.
Two items are on the agenda:
1) October 8, 1997 crash of a Scenic Airlines Cessna 208B near Montrose, Colorado, which killed the pilot and all 8 passengers aboard. The passengers were employees of the U.S. Department of Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation, and were on a charter flight returning to Page, Arizona, after a business trip to Montrose. The plane crashed on a remote plateau and was found 2 days later. All aboard died as a result of impact. NTSB Press Officer: Ted Lopatkiewicz.
2) June 20, 1998 derailment of a CSX freight train near Cox Landing, West Virginia. Three of the derailed cars were loaded with hazardous materials and leaked 21,500 gallons of formaldehyde solution. There were 15 minor injuries. Total damage exceeded $2.6 million.
NTSB Press Officer: Terry Williams.
The meeting room is lighted for television, and has an audio mult box.
***Note: Major reconstruction has just begun at L’Enfant Plaza that has disrupted normal traffic patterns outside the building. This might affect television trucks that usually park on the plaza, but should not affect pedestrian traffic or those who park in the garage.***
