In 1989, the Board issued three safety recommendations to the U.S. Department of Transportation regarding operator fatigue in all modes of transportation. One recommendation called for a fatigue research program, another for education, and the third for revised hours-of-service regulations. The Board will consider a draft safety report on the DOT’s progress in implementing these recommendations over the past decade. At this meeting, the Board also will consider additional recommendations to the DOT and its modal administrations regarding hours-of-service rules.
