NTSB HOSTS INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON TRANSPORTATION RECORDERS MAY 3-5
For the first time, at a symposium next week, the National Transportation Safety Board and the International Transportation Safety Association will bring together experts and international professionals from all transportation modes to and identify methods for expanding the use of event recorders for safety as well as for commercial and economic advantages.
The International Symposium on Transportation Recorders will be held on May 3-5, 1999, in Arlington, Virginia. Jim Hall, Chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board, will present opening remarks. Daniel S. Goldin, Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, will be the keynote speaker at the dinner on May 3rd. Jane Garvey, Administrator of Federal Aviation Administration, will be the featured speaker for the closing luncheon on Wednesday, May 5th.
The symposium will review the current state of recorder technology, including cockpit voice recorders and flight data recorders used in commercial aviation, voyage recorders installed on cruise ships, on-board computers/recorders installed in trucks, event recorders installed on trains and the recording devices used throughout the pipeline industry. New technologies, such as on-board video recording and satellite-transmitted data, will also be examined.
The three day symposium, held at the Crystal Gateway Marriott, 1700 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington, will begin on May 3rd at 9:30 am. An exhibition of recorder technology will run concurrently at the hotel.
