NTSB MEETING: FINAL REPORT ON COLLISION OF SCHOOL BUS AND DUMP TRUCK



The National Transportation Safety Board will consider the investigative team's report on a collision last year between a school bus and a dump truck in Central Bridge, (Schoharie County) New York, at a public meeting on Tuesday, November 14, 2000, at 9:30 a.m., in the NTSB's new Boardroom/Conference Center located at 429 L'Enfant Plaza, SW, Washington, DC, 20594.

On October 21, 1999, a school bus carrying 44 students, aged 5 to 9, and 8 adults, on a field trip near Central Bridge, NY, failed to stop at an intersection as required and was struck by a dump truck. Seven bus passengers sustained serious injuries; 28 passengers and the truck driver received minor injuries.

Major safety issues identified in this accident that will be discussed at this meeting include:

About one hour after the meeting concludes, an abstract of the final report, containing the Board's findings, the probable cause of the accident, and safety recommendations, will be available in the NTSB's public affairs office on the 6th floor. The abstract also will be posted on the NTSB web site (www.ntsb.gov). Printed copies of the final report will be available at a later date.
