NTSB CHAIRMAN URGES THANKSGIVING TRAVELERS TO SLOW DOWN AND ENJOY THE HOLIDAY
WASHINGTON, D.C. - As Americans take to the roads, rails and skies for the Thanksgiving holiday to celebrate with family and friends, National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Mark V. Rosenker calls upon all travelers to make safety a top priority.
“In the rush to start the festivities, tragedies can occur when travelers forget basic safety practices,” said Rosenker. “With the increased holiday traffic during the long Thanksgiving weekend, you owe it to yourselves and your loved ones to pay attention and take extra care while traveling in order to prevent accidents.”
Holidays are consistently ranked among the deadliest times of the year for motorists and pedestrians, particularly when drivers are on the roads early in the morning or late at night. Fatigue- and alcohol-related crashes are among the most frequently occurring road accidents during the holiday season.
“Motorists should get plenty of rest, buckle up everyone securely, respect the speed limits and traffic laws, and always drive sober,” said Rosenker.
