NTSB TO HOLD A BOARD MEETING ON MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AND THE 2006 CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY BLUE LINE ACCIDENT


Washington, DC -- The National Transportation Safety Board will hold a public Board meeting on September 11, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. in its Board Room and Conference Center 429 L'Enfant Plaza, SW, Washington, DC.

Two items are on the agenda:

  1. Motorcycle Safety: The Board will discuss draft recommendations that resulted from the NTSB Public Forum on Motorcycle Safety that occurred on September 12-13, 2006. During the forum, the Safety Board gathered information on ongoing motorcycle research and initiatives, as well as countermeasures that may reduce the likelihood of motorcycle accidents and fatalities. The meeting included participants representing government, motorcycle manufacturers, motorcyclist associations, state motorcycle rights organizations, trauma physicians, law enforcement, and insurance companies.   2. Chicago Railroad Accident: The Safety Board will also discuss the July 11, 2006 Chicago Transit Authority train derailment in a tunnel with a fire on the Blue line. There were no fatalities. More than 100 passengers were injured. Contact: Peter Knudson (202) 314-6100

Directions to the Board Room: Front door is located on Lower 10th Street, directly below L'Enfant Plaza. From Metro, exit L'Enfant Plaza station at 9th and D streets escalator, walk through shopping mall and at CVS store take the escalator down one level. The Board Room will be to the left.
