NTSB HOLDS MARCH BOARD MEETING

Washington, DC – The National Transportation Safety Board will hold a public Board meeting on Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at 12:30 p.m., (please note the later time) in its Board Room and Conference Center, 429 L'Enfant Plaza, S.W., Washington, DC. The two items on the agenda are:

  1. On July 10, 2005, two CN freight trains collided head on in Anding, Mississippi. Signal data indicated that a northbound train continued past a stop (red) signal at North Anding and collided with a southbound train about 1/4 mile beyond the signal. The collision resulted in the derailment of 6 locomotives and 17 cars. About 15,000 gallons of diesel fuel were released from the locomotives and resulted in a fire that burned for about 15 hours. There were two crewmembers on each train and all four were killed. Media Contact: Keith Holloway

  2. On June 12, 2006, the Massachusetts, a commuter ferry carrying 65 passengers and four crewmembers, was en- route from Rowe's Wharf in Boston Harbor to Hingham, Massachusetts when a fire broke out in the engine room. All passengers were safely transferred to the Laura, another commuter vessel in the vicinity before a fireboat from the Boston Fire Department's marine unit arrived. There were no serious injuries or fatalities. Media Contact: Terry Williams
