NTSB ANNOUNCES CIO APPOINTMENT


National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Mark V. Rosenker today announced the selection of Robert P. Scherer to be the NTSB's new Chief Information Officer (CIO).

Mr. Scherer comes to the NTSB from the Bureau of Engraving and Printing where he was Deputy CIO, responsible for the management of IT operations including network operations, enterprise systems, web development and IT user support. Prior to this, he spent 16 years with the U.S. Secret Service in various supervisory capacities in the organization's Information Resources Management Division.

Scherer has extensive experience in application development and data base administration. He completed the National Defense University's Advanced Management and CIO Certification Programs, GSA's Strategic and Tactical Advocates for Results (STAR) Program, and the Federal Executive Institute's Leadership for a Democratic Society Program.

Throughout his career, Scherer has received numerous awards for his contributions in leveraging technology to improve the operational efficiency and delivery of mission services.

Scherer is a graduate of George Washington University, where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in finance and a Master's degree in information systems management.
