JANUARY MARINE ACCIDENT IN FLORIDA AND 1999 HIGHWAY ACCIDENT IN COLORADO
ARE SUBJECTS OF NTSB BOARD MEETING
Washington, D.C. - The National Transportation Safety Board will hold a public Board Meeting on Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at 9:30 a.m., in its Board Room and Conference Center, 429 LEnfant Plaza, S.W., Washington, D.C. There are two items on the agenda:
1. On January 12, 2002, a 24-foot Coast Guard patrol boat, with two crewmembers on board, collided with the small passenger vessel Bayside Blaster, carrying 2 crewmembers and 53 passengers in Biscayne Bay, Florida. Both crewmembers were ejected from the Coast Guard boat, which continued running, circled, and struck the Bayside Blaster again. There were no fatalities and damage from the accident was estimated at $186, 000. Press Contact: Keith Holloway
2. On December 21, 1999, a motor coach operated by Sierra Trailways ran off the road and down a forty-foot deep embankment near Canon City, Colorado. The driver and 2 passengers were killed in the accident. Safety issues include the use of transmission retarders in slippery conditions and the need for time-stamping standards for information contained in a vehicles electronic control unit.
