NTSB ASSISTING GOVERNMENT OF BAHAMAS IN INVESTIGATION OF CRASH OF CESSNA 402
WASHINGTON, D.C. - National Transportation Safety Board investigator Al Yurman
has been designated the United States Accredited Representative to the Bahamian
investigation of the crash of a Cessna 402 Saturday night that killed all 9 persons
aboard, including entertainer Aaliyah.
The aircraft (N8097W) crashed shortly after takeoff on Abaco Island in the Bahamas
for a flight to Opalocka, Florida.
Yurman is being accompanied by investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration, Cessna Aircraft and Continental Engines. They will provide assistance to the investigation being directed by Bahamian Investigator-in-Charge Randy Buttler. The American team arrived mid-day today.
Under international agreement, only the country investigating the accident
can release factual information on the progress of the investigation. All media
