NTSB'S CHAIRMAN ELLEN ENGLEMAN CONNERS TO PARTICIPATE IN WASHINGTON AUTO SHOW

Washington, D.C.-- National Transportation Safety Board's Chairman Ellen Engleman Conners will participate in the Washington Auto Show on Monday, December 29, 2003. She will staff the agency's exhibit booth from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., providing the public with information on the NTSB's Most Wanted List of safety improvements, highway safety issues, and general information on the Safety Board.

"As part of our aggressive pursuit of safety, it is imperative that we participate in outreach events that enable us to educate the public on transportation safety, including currently available inexpensive preventative measures that save lives when practiced," the Chairman said. "Throughout the 10-day Auto Show, we will provide attendees with information on booster seats, primary seatbelt laws, graduated drivers licenses, 15-passenger vans, and legislation designed to reduce hard-core drinking drivers," she added.

During her visit, the Chairman will also discuss transportation safety in partnerships with the Department of Transportation, the National Safety Council, National Safe Kids Campaign, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, and other transportation safety related organizations.

The Auto Show, which runs from December 26, 2003 through January 4, 2004, will be held at the new Washington Convention Center. The NTSB exhibit hours are 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Additional information on the NTSB can be obtained on the agency's website at: www.ntsb.gov.
