NTSB MEETING: FINAL REPORT ON CRASH OF AIRPLANE CARRYING SENATOR WELLSTONE, 7 OTHERS


The National Transportation Safety Board will consider the final report on the investigation into the crash of a Raytheon (Beechcraft) King Air 100 airplane (N41BE) near Eveleth, MN, on October 25, 2002, at a public meeting Tuesday, November 18, at 1:00 p.m., in the NTSB's Board Room/Conference Center, 429 L'Enfant Plaza, SW, Washington, DC.

The aircraft, operated by Aviation Charter, Inc., and carrying Senator Paul Wellstone, five other passengers and 2 crewmembers, was on a flight from St. Paul to Eveleth when it crashed on approach to Eveleth-Virginia Airport. The aircraft was destroyed and there were no survivors.

After the meeting concludes, an abstract of the final report, containing the Board's findings, the probable cause(s) of the accident, and safety recommendations, will be available at NTSB headquarters and on the NTSB web site (www.ntsb.gov). The full text of the final report will be available on the web site about 3 to 4 weeks after adoption by the Board.

The complete agenda for November 18 will be announced shortly before the meeting.
