CELL PHONE USE TO BE SUBJECT OF BOTH ITEMS ON NTSB BOARD MEETING
AGENDA FOR TUESDAY, JUNE 3
The National Transportation Safety Board holds a public Board meeting Tuesday, June 3, at 10:30 a.m., in its Board Room and Conference Center, 429 L'Enfant Plaza, S.W., Washington, D.C.
There are two items on the agenda:
1) February 1, 2002, highway crash near Largo, Maryland. A Ford Explorer departed the left side of the roadway of the Capital Beltway (Interstate 95/495), crossed a median strip and landed on top of a Ford Windstar heading in the opposite direction. The driver of the Explorer and all 4 occupants of the Windstar died in the crash. The driver of the Explorer was apparently using her cell phone at the time of the crash.

2) May 28, 2002, collision of two Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight trains near Clarendon, Texas. The engineer of one of the trains was apparently using a cell phone at the time he was to have stopped his train. One train engineer was killed. The collision resulted in a fire, causing damages in excess of $8 million.
