NTSB TO RELEASE FACTUAL REPORTS ON METRA DERAILMENT


Washington, DC -- As part of its continuing investigation into the derailment of Metra train 504, the National Transportation Safety Board will open a public docket and release a series of factual reports on Thursday, July 20, 2006, at 11:00 am.

On September 17, 2005 eastbound Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corporation (Metra) train 504 derailed one locomotive and five cars near West 47th Street and South Federal Street in Chicago, Illinois. Two passengers received fatal injuries as a result of the derailment.

The public docket is provided on a CD-ROM and will be available at the Office of Public Affairs, NTSB Headquarters (6th floor), 490 L'Enfant Plaza, S.W., Washington, D.C.

The information being released is factual in nature and does not provide analysis. It will include investigative group factual reports, interviews, and other documents from the investigation. Additional material will be added to the docket as it becomes available. Analysis of the accident, along with conclusions and a determination of probable cause, will come at a later date when the final report on the investigation is completed.
