UPDATE: BOSTON TUNNEL ACCIDENT

As part of its ongoing investigation into the fatal accident in the Interstate 90 connector tunnel in Boston, the National Transportation Safety Board is conducting detailed visual examinations and documentation of the remaining anchors of the same section of tunnel where the concrete ceiling panel collapsed. This includes the eastbound, westbound, and HOV lanes in the tunnel.

Based on this information, the Safety Board, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and the Massachusetts Highway Department, will conduct pull tests today of selected anchors to determine the characteristics of the epoxy which was used to secure the anchors in the ceiling of the tunnel.

As the investigation proceeds, periodic updates will be issued from the NTSB Public Affairs Office in Washington DC.
