NTSB TO RELEASE FACTUAL REPORTS ON FATAL CRASH NEAR BAGRAM, AFGHANISTAN


Washington, D.C. - As part of its continuing investigation into an accident involving a twin-engine turboprop airplane near Bagram, Afghanistan, the National Transportation Safety Board will open a public docket and release a series of factual reports on Friday, February 10, 2006, at 11:00 am.

On November 27, 2004, about 1120 coordinated universal time, a CASA 212, twin-engine turboprop airplane, operated by Presidential Airways Inc., of Melbourne, Florida, was destroyed when it collided with terrain during a climb, about 80 miles west of Bagram, Afghanistan. The certificated airline transport pilot, co pilot, flight mechanic, and three passengers were fatality injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight that originated at Bagram, and was destined for Farah, Afghanistan. The on-demand passenger/ cargo transport flight was conducted under 14 CFR Part 135.

On December 4, 2004, the Transitional Islamic Government of Afghanistan, requested through the Embassy of the United States, that in accord with ICAO Annex 13, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board be delegated to conduct the investigation.

The information being released is factual in nature and does not provide analysis. It will include investigative group factual reports, interview transcripts, cockpit voice recorder transcript, and other documents from the investigation. Additional material will be added to the docket as it becomes available. Analysis of the accident, along with conclusions and a determination of probable cause, will come at a later date when the final report on the investigation is completed.
