NTSB INVESTIGATING VRE DERAILMENT


National Transportation Safety Board investigators are at the scene of a derailment earlier this morning involving a Virginia Railway Express (VRE) commuter train.

VRE train number 304 was northbound to Washington, DC, when it derailed shortly before 7:00 a.m., EST, near Quantico, VA. A locomotive and three passenger cars left the tracks but remained in an upright position; the three other passenger cars remained on the tracks.

The NTSB Investigator-In-Charge is Richard Hipskind.
