NTSB SENDS TEAM TO ASSIST IN AIRCRAFT ACCIDENT IN NIGERIA


Washington, DC--The National Transportation Safety Board dispatched a team of investigators to Lagos, Nigeria to assist in the investigation of the crash of a Bellview Airlines Boeing 737-200 on Sunday, October 23, 2005.

The five-member team is headed by senior NTSB investigator Dennis L. Jones, the U.S. Accredited Representative named in accordance with procedures of the International Civil Aviation Organization. The team also consist of an investigator from the Federal Aviation Administration and investigators from the aircraft manufacturer, Boeing, and the engine manufacturer, Pratt & Whitney.

Dennis Jones also assisted the Nigerian government in 2002 when an airliner crashed shortly after take-off in Kano, Nigeria killing 140 people.

The accident investigation authorities of Nigeria will release all information on the progress of the investigation.
