NTSB TO HOLD MEETING ON AMTRAK DERAILMENT NEAR FLORA, MISSISSIPPI
On April 6, 2004 northbound Amtrak train No. 58 derailed on Canadian National Railway track near Flora, Mississippi. The entire train consisting of one locomotive, one baggage car, and eight passenger cars derailed. One passenger was killed in the derailment. Safety issues discussed in the report include Canadian National Railway's continuous welded rail maintenance and inspection procedures and standards, Amtrak's emergency response training, and the Federal Railroad Administration's oversight of both.
