Official U.S. Government Web site for Information on Pandemic Flu and Avian Influenza

As part of the National Pandemic Influenza Strategy, President George Bush announced the launch of a the Web site PandemicFlu.gov, which is intended to be the official U. S. Government Web site for pandemic flu and avian (bird) flu.

As part of a speech unveiling the National Pandemic Influenza Strategy, the President announced the launch of a new Web site PandemicFlu.gov which is intended to be the official U. S. Government Web site for pandemic flu and avian (bird) flu. A small group of Federal agencies have worked to develop this site based on existing information in anticipation of the release of the National Strategy, and today, the HHS plan. The initial site planning commenced with a strategy call between Health and Human Services and the Department of Homeland Security to determine the lead for initial site development and those agencies that would initially be invited to participate in development of the site.

As part of the broader planning and communication efforts for pandemic flu, a governance process to guide future development of the site will be instituted. HHS looks forward to active participation by additional agencies. Through this process we expect a more formal lane structure to be established as was used during Hurricane Katrina response, although we have the advantage of a single site and URL to use for planning stages and for a pandemic flu outbreak.

HHS welcomes your input on the existing site. If you have information relating to pandemic flu or avian (bird) flu that you believe should be linked to, please submit your request at http://webrequests.hhs.gov. Please be sure to recommend placement of the link.

At the state level, HHS is especially interested in locating additional state plans for the State Pandemic Plans page at http://www.pandemicflu.gov/plan/stateplans.html . If a state plan has been withheld from the public web site for security reasons, information on the office people should contact for information is also welcome.

For overall general information on a pandemic influenza, including history or possible new outbreaks, we ask that you link to www.pandemicflu.gov, the official U.S. government Web site for information on pandemic flu and avian influenza. For specific information on the CDC Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) go to http://www.cdc.gov/flu/avian/
