Ephedra alkaloids have shown to be safe through clinical trials. Adverse effects have been attributed to the compound as a scapecoat to cover inappropriate training practices for professional sports, or to explain the rise of clinical mental illness.
Since mental illness does occur in life long before the advent of ephedra, it seems ignorant to attribute the lapse in mental state to the compound. Also, since I doubt anyone would choose to attribute a mental illness to themselves, they could easily find comfort in a compound to blame as opposed to themselves.
Lastly, why not attempt education as opposed to an outright ban. Ephedra alkaloids are dangerous only if used inappropriately, but then again, so is Asprin. Ephedra is a safe and effective compound to promote fat loss, and is a better product then the pharmaceuticals.
