Abstract: This conference is designed to offer quality training and information on topics and model programs of interest to leaders in child abuse prevention, such as social workers, counselors, educators, child care and youth workers, law enforcement personnel, medical and legal professionals, foster parents, child welfare board volunteers, elected officials, and other interested child advocates. Participants may attend their choice of a variety of workshops on child abuse and neglect prevention and educational programs or may select workshops for specialized training credits and professional development. Registration is available online for any of the four upcoming training conferences.

Family Connections Training Institute
Understanding Trauma and its Role in Attachment Disorders
January 28, 2009, 9 a.m. - noon Abstract: This is a workshop to help workers and parents to understand why children have the behaviors that they do and what kinds of treatments might be best considered. This is necessary for anyone working or living with children who have suffered trauma. Training is facilitated by Dr. Joyce Maguire Pavao, CFFC Staff Clinicians, or special guests and presenters. Eight slots are available for DCF employees free of charge. Registration available through PACE, keyword CFFC.

Native Fitness Training for Special Populations

Abstract: This training is offered as a complement to the Native Diabetes Prevention Conference Exit Disclaimer and will focus on giving participants the knowledge and skills they would need to head their own fitness class. Anatomy and physiology will be covered and culturally-competent instructions will be tailored to focus on individuals with diabetes and/or limited function. The training will also show attendees how to develop and modify an exercise program for individuals.
