PRESS ACCOMMODATIONS AT NTSB PUBLIC HEARING ON UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD, MARCH 18-20 IN SPRINGFIELD, VA


The National Transportation Safety Board will convene a public hearing as part of its Special Investigation into safety problems at the Union Pacific Railroad Company at 9:00 a.m. on March 18th at the Springfield Hilton Hotel, 6550 Loisdale Road, Springfield, Virginia (telephone 703-971-8900). Copies of the public docket will be available to the press at 8:00 a.m. at the Hilton.

Representatives from the Union Pacific Railroad, Federal Railroad Administration, Texas Railroad Commission and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers will testify during the 3 day hearing. Parties to the hearing include the Union Pacific Railroad, Federal Railroad Administration, Texas Railroad Commission, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the United Transportation Union.

For electronic media, a camera riser will be provided, as well as a mult-box for sound. The room will not have special lighting for television, so camera crews should be prepared to provide their own supplemental lighting. Press tables with electrical outlets will be provided.

More information on the hearing, including accident summaries, will be available this weekend on the NTSB’s web site at http://www.ntsb.gov.

The NTSB is an independent federal agency empowered by Congress to determine the probable cause of transportation accidents and to make recommendations to improve safety.
