 -   Volunteers From the Birmingham HUD Office Help Family Construct Home

----------

When staff from the Birmingham HUD Office heard that Field Policy and Management were planning a volunteer workday to help build a home for a needy family in celebration of Homeownership Month, the number of volunteers grew to include additional HUD employees and some family members. Many others whose schedules conflicted with the Saturday, June 19, 2004 work date, expressed a desire to plan additional volunteer workdays so they could experience the joy of sharing in the construction of this home.

Habitat began construction on the home for the Michelle Figueroa family in March 2004. The dedication of the home occurred Wednesday, June 23, 2004. The crew of HUD staff and family members worked long and steady hours to remove construction debris, paint and install trim and shelving, paint the exterior masonry foundation, and to perform any other tasks needed to move construction ahead so Ms. Figueroa and her family did not have to experience any delays in moving into their new home.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Birmingham builds houses across Jefferson County including Fairfield, Woodlawn, Homewood, Crestwood, Norwood, Wylam, Ensley, Graymont, Edgewater, Irondale, Leeds and Brighton.
