SYNOPSIS
This study presents summaries of 189 heavy truck accident investigations
conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board. Among the driver-related
issues discussed are duty hours/fatigue, training/ experience, alcohol/drugs,
and driving records. The report also discusses motor carrier oversight
of the operational safety of the truck or driver. Other factors discussed
in some case summaries include hazardous materials, double trailers, grade
crossings, the environment, and crashworthiness.
