Tour DescriptionNational Geographic expedition members in 1924 wrote about the wonders of Lower Cave. Visitors today can see the evidence left behind from these and other explorers. You will descend 10 feet into Lower Cave down a flowstone slope by knotted rope and proceed to descend 50 feet down three sets of ladders. This trip is not recommended for anyone with a fear of enclosed spaces. Bring gloves, four new AA alkaline batteries and optional kneepads per person. The park provides helmets and headlamps. Last General Admission entry into cave via elevator is 5:00PM. AccessibilityThere is no handicap accessibility on this tour. AmenitiesRestrooms are located in the Visitors Center and in the cave. There is a restaurant in the Visitors Center as well as limited food available in the Underground Lunchroom in the cave. Bookstore & gift shops are located in the Visitors Center. Kennel Service is available. DirectionsVisitors arrive by way of U.S. Highway 62/180 from either Carlsbad New Mexico (23 miles to the northeast) or El Paso Texas (150 miles to the west). A scenic 7-mile entrance road leads from Whites City to the visitor center and cavern entrance. Note: Some Tours may be available only from the Tour Park on a first-come-first-served basis. Arrival dates earlier than the online-reservation-window may also be available at the Tour Park. |
