Please ensure that your loved ones are wearing the right size life jacket when they are boating or playing on or near the water. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wants you to have a pleasant recreational experience. Many people drown on the nation's waterways each year and, in most cases, victims were not wearing a life jacket, the one tool that could have helped them survive when they entered the water. Please ensure that your loved ones are wearing the right size life jacket when they are boating or playing on or near the water. The Chief of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers needs your help as we try to reduce the number of public fatalities on our nation's waterways. Only YOU can help us do that! |
AXTEL (KY), ROUGH RIVER LAKE, KYDescription:Rough River Lake lies within the "Clifty" area of the Pennyroyal Region of Kentucky. A wide variety of recreational opportunities and facilities has been provided for visitor enjoyment by the Corps and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Visitation at the lake now exceeds two million visitor days annually. This campground has 158 sites, swimming area, boat launching ramp, dump station, flush restrooms, playground, showers and potable water. Alerts and Important InformationThe beach area located in Axtel Campground will be closed from May 1st thru June 30th due to high water levels. Registered campers are still permitted to swim in the area by their campsites, at their own risk, but not at the beach area. Reservations must be made at least 2 days in advance. 3 night minimum on holidays. No Alcohol. No ATV's or ORV's allowed. The campground is open mid-April to mid-September and sites range from $14-$22/night. Attendants are on duty and the telephone number is (270) 257-2584.Due to high water levels at Rough River Lake, sites may be closed periodically during the time period of May 1st, 2008 through June 15th, 2008. Every effort is being made to avoid site closures, but we want our customers to be aware of the possibility in order to provide the best customer service. Take US 60 to Harned, KY turning south on Hwy 259. Travel 9 miles and turn west on Hwy 79. Follow for .5 miles to the Axtel Campground entrance.
