The Business Benefits of Accessible E&IT Design

Historically, the primary forces driving the design of accessible E&IT products and services have been legal, moral, social and ethical. Designing for access is often viewed as something companies must do. In other words if legal, moral, social and ethical issues ceased to exist… so would accessibly designed E&IT. There are many business reasons to design for access. Companies are attracted to design for access when there are mainstream business benefits for doing so. This session will discuss many of these benefits.

Testing to Accessibility – Expanding the Limits of 508

SSA 508 Procurement Wizard

This session will discuss and demonstrate the Procurement Wizard, which was developed by the Social Security Administration with the idea of eliminating the “time consuming” and “confusing” process that existed in filling out all of the paperwork needed to ensure that an item being purchased is in compliance with or is an exception to the Section 508 law.  By replacing an entirely “paper-based” process with a web-based one – purchase requestors are able to quickly fill-out and, if necessary, have electronically signed the documentation they need to complete the required 508 Determination of Compliance portion of a Procurement Request.
