About Us

The Afghanistan Investment and Reconstruction Task Force (AIRTF) of the U.S. Department of Commerce and this Web site serve as a clearinghouse of information for U.S. companies interested in doing business in Afghanistan. The Task Force works closely with the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, other U.S. government agencies, Afghan government agencies, and international organizations to provide U.S. companies counseling on the latest developments and business opportunities in Afghanistan. The AIRTF also works with these organizations, U.S. and Afghan business interests to help development the private sector through the improvement of a market conducive to investment, trade, and private sector growth. The AIRTF is helping Afghanistan develop industry sectors where it has a comparative advantage – Rugs, Dried Fruits/Nuts, and Mining. Susan Hamrock Mann is the Director of the Afghanistan Investment and Reconstruction Task Force.
