ABOARD M/V INDEPENDENCE (February 08, 2000) -- The U.S. Navy's Unmanned Vehicle "Deep Drone" recovers a piece of fairing from the tail section from Alaska Air Flight 261, aboard M/V Independence, operating off the southern California coast.

 PORT HUENEME, CA. (February 09, 2000) -- A large piece of the vertical stabilizer from Alaska Air Flight 261 is transported to the pier with from the salvage ship M/VIndependence. The piece was recovered by the Navy's underwater Unmanned Vehicle "Deep Drone" off the coast of southern California.
