NTSB HOSTS DISCUSSION ON HUMAN FACTORS IN AVIATION MAINTENANCE

Washington, D.C. - The National Transportation Safety Board will host a discussion on human factors issues in airline maintenance programs on Thursday, August 1, 2002. The discussion will examine how the post September 11 emphasis on aviation security has affected the industry’s recurrent training programs for airline maintenance personnel designed to mitigate human factors issues that may lead to accidents.

NTSB Board Member John Goglia will facilitate the discussion between attendees from the Air Transport Association, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in the UK, Air Canada, Boeing and Airbus. Discussion topics will include the current state of Maintenance Human Factors programs, the future direction of such programs, and the necessary steps to progress from the current to future programs.

Attendance at Thursday’s discussion is open to the news media and no registration is required. The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will continue until approximately 6 p.m. in the NTSB’s Board Room and Conference Center, 429 L’Enfant Plaza, SW, Washington, D.C.
