December 18, 2008 - Northwest RCFL Mourns Officers’ Deaths – Assists Investigation

On December 12, Oregon State Police Senior Trooper William Hakim, and Woodburn police Captain Tom Tennant, were killed after a bomb they were handling exploded. Woodburn police Chief Scott Russell was seriously injured in the blast and remains in critical condition. A West Coast Bank employee found the device and called the police for assistance. On December 14, authorities arrested 32-year old Joshua Turnridge and his father, 57-year old Bruce Turnridge, and charged them with aggravated murder. The Northwest RCFL is providing digital forensics support of the multiagency investigation, which will be followed by an independent review conducted by federal agencies. Trooper Hakim was a member of the Oregon State Police – a participating agency in the Northwest RCFL.
