Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Joe Donnelly announced that the Pleasant Township Fire Department will receive a Fire Prevention and Safety Grant (FP&S) in the amount of $15,000. Given by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the FP&S Grant will support projects aimed at preventing fires and making firefighters safer.
“We greatly appreciate the service that our fire departments provide to our local communities,” said Donnelly. “I’m glad that I could write a letter of support to help the Pleasant Township Fire Department secure this grant. It’s important to me to ensure that fire departments have the resources they need to continue their great work educating our communities about the potential dangers of fire.”
After distributing the funds allocated in Fiscal Year 2006 for FP&S grants, FEMA will have awarded close to 300 grants, totaling approximately $27 million, to fire departments and other eligible organizations in an attempt to prevent injuries and losses from fire and fire-related hazards. FEMA hopes that these grants will support important efforts to protect the public and firefighters from the dangers of fire, a phenomenon that is responsible for killing more Americans each year than all other natural disasters combined.
