LaPorte, IN – This morning, Congressman Joe Donnelly informed the LaPorte County Sheriff’s office that they will receive federal funds to help increase the effectiveness of local law enforcement in the LaPorte area. The funds were approved as part of the congressional appropriations process.
The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department will receive $413,600 to purchase and install an in-car video recording system in all of the department’s squad cars. This equipment allows for accurate video documentation of evidence when no witnesses are present, and will, therefore, provide better protection for both officers and the public.
“I was pleased to learn that the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department will receive this grant for the video documentation equipment, which will help them better protect the local community,” said Congressman Donnelly. “I fought hard to make sure Congress allocated these funds to help our fine law enforcement officers continue to keep us safe.”
“Our department will be extremely grateful when we get the in-car video recording systems installed in our squad cars. Without these funds, we could not afford to purchase the number of cameras we need for our vehicles. This is a terrific tool for us, and it will better protect both our officers and the public,” said Sheriff Mollenhauer of the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.
