Executive Summary:  A total of 1,837 accidents occurred during calendar year 2000, involving 1,861 aircraft. The total number of general aviation accidents in 2000 was higher than in 1999, with a 4% increase of 69 accidents. Of the total number of accidents, 345 were fatal, resulting in a total of 596 fatalities. The number of fatal general aviation accidents in 2000 increased 1.5% over calendar year 1999, but the total number of fatalities that resulted decreased by 4%. The circumstances of these accidents and details related to the aircraft, pilots, and locations are presented throughout this review.
