External link Case Management Grants
A grant in the amount of $200,000 will be awarded to an organization that provides services to family members living in rural areas who have lost a loved one to homicide. During the first 12 months, funding will be used to develop or enhance a comprehensive service strategy for services to family members after a homicide.

The Office for Victims of Crime is offering $350,000 in grants for funding grants “to raise the awareness of traditionally underserved populations about victims’ rights as well as improve their knowledge about accessing local services available to crime victims.” Funds are intended to support campaigns geared toward underserved populations. External link Gang Prevention Grants [PDF | 151KB]
The Bureau of Justice Assistance is accepting applications for funds allocated to programs that help develop life skills in students and ultimately prevent delinquency, youth violence and gang membership. The grants are part of the Gang Resistance Education and Training Program and are available in amounts of $50,000-$125,000 for a 12-month period. Funds are available for up to 90 percent of project expenses.
The deadline to apply is January 22, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. EST.
External link Adult Drug Court Discretionary Program
The purpose of the Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is to provide resources to state, local and tribal governments and state and local courts to establish or enhance adult drug courts and systems for nonviolent substance-abusing offenders.
The deadline to apply is January 29, 2009.
External link Violence Prevention Program Grant
The primary purpose of the Rural Program is to enhance the safety of child, youth and adult victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking by supporting projects uniquely designed to address and prevent these crimes in rural jurisdictions About $900,000 is available to be awarded to almost 60 organizations. Applications that propose innovative solutions for achieving this goal are sought.
The deadline to apply is February 4, 2009.
External link Salud America! The National Latino Childhood Obesity Prevention Research Network Exit Disclaimer
Salud America! is recruiting members for its research network and will survey members and draft a Latino childhood obesity national research agenda. The network also will fund and support several pilot research projects, each up to $75,000 over two years, and a series of scientific conferences to further the network's research agenda.
The deadline to apply is Feb. 6, 2009.

The CDC is making approximately $2.6M available in fiscal year 2009 to fund about 70 to 100 awards in an effort to partially support specific, non-federal conferences pertaining to health promotion and disease prevention, educational programs and applied research. The CDC is offering HIV prevention toward organizations’ interventions for minority men who have sex with men. This funding opportunity will support applicants in the United States that partner with local community- and faith-based organizations.

HHS will dole out money for 14 telehealth grants, totaling about $3.4M to groups that provide services through a telehealth network to patients located in their homes.

External link Funding for Pilot Projects Exit Disclaimer
The Minority Health & Health Disparities Research Center and the Deep South Resource Center for Minority Aging Research are accepting applications for the 2009 funding of one-year pilot projects focusing on minority aging and health disparities in the African- American population. One-year grants are available in amounts ranging from $5,000 to $20,000 each from the American Psychological Foundation. Grants are designed to seed innovation through supporting research, education, and intervention projects and programs that use psychology to solve social problems.

The William Bingham Foundation annually selects an area of interest for the next year’s grant requests. In 2009 the Foundation will accept requests from Maine organizations that are focused on preserving the state’s environmental resources. The maximum grant amount is $25,000.

Small Grant Program for Conference Support
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), announces its continued interest in supporting conferences through its Small Grant Program for Conference Support. AHRQ seeks to support conferences that help to further its mission to improve the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of health care for all Americans. AHRQ is especially interested in supporting conferences that demonstrate strategies which include plans for disseminating conference materials and products beyond the participants attending the event.
Grant Expiration Date is October 21, 2009.

This initiative is designed to stimulate research that targets the reduction of health disparities among children. For purposes of this initiative, health disparities apply to children who have limited access to resources and privileges that impact their health. As such, this initiative includes a focus on ethnic and racial minority children and populations of underserved children to include: children from low literacy, rural and low-income populations, geographically isolated children, hearing and visually impaired children, physically or mentally disabled children, children of migrant workers, children from immigrant and refugee families, and language minority children.
The closing deadline for this grant is Sept. 8, 2010.

The Verizon Foundation looks to forge and maintain partnerships around technology initiatives with local, regional, national and international organizations serving the needs of racial and ethnic communities, people with disabilities, and the economically and socially disadvantaged... The Verizon Foundation Web site also includes grant guidelines, an online grant eligibility quiz and a technology needs assessment section to help nonprofits in applying for grants online, which is the only way applications may be submitted...January 1st through October 31st.

The Annie E. Casey Foundation is a private charitable organization dedicated to helping build better futures for disadvantaged children in the United States. External link Helping Outreach Programs to Expand Grant Program
The U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) will provide up to $10,000 in funding to grassroots community- and faith-based victim service organizations and coalitions to improve outreach and services to crime victims, through support of program development, networking, coalition building, and service delivery. Funds may be used to develop program literature, train advocates, produce a newsletter, support victim outreach efforts, and recruit volunteers.
