Public Meeting to Discuss Proposed Actions for Clavey Watershed

Sonora, September 19, 2008 - The Forest Service today announced that Stanislaus National Forest will hold a public meeting to discuss developing a proposal for vegetation management and other resource management projects within the Twomile Planning Area, a portion of the Clavey watershed. The public meeting is scheduled to be held on Tuesday October 7, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Forest Supervisor's Office in Sonora.

Located on the Mi-Wok and Groveland Ranger Districts, the 18,000 acre Twomile Project planning area encompasses portions of Hull Creek, Twomile Creek, and the Clavey River. The Forest Service is in the early stages of project development and would like to involve the public throughout the planning process. Resource specialists are seeking the public's ideas and comments to help develop proposed actions that address specific concerns, and identify opportunities to improve and enhance the existing condition and function of the watershed.

The meeting will provide an overview of the Twomile project planning area and a general introduction to the planning process for Twomile area. Those attending the meeting will have the opportunity to interact with the project interdisciplinary team conducting the analysis and planning effort. Members of the public will be able to discuss their interests concerning development and shaping of proposals for beneficial resource management projects.

The first meeting is intended to serve as a general introduction and starting point for public involvement in the Twomile project development. Subsequent public meetings, yet to be scheduled, will focus more on specific projects or issues. A second smaller project, the Reynolds Creek Project, also within the Clavey watershed, will be introduced as well.

For more information about the meeting and how to participate, contact Michael Jow on the Mi-Wok Ranger District at (209) 586-3234 Extension 633.
