Commercial Compliance Using COMcheck™
The COMcheck materials (software, manual code compliance, and reference guides) simplify and clarify commercial and high-rise residential energy code compliance. Forms and checklists are included for documenting compliance. If you are unsure which approach is best for your project, see our Commercial Compliance FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions).
Trade-off Approach
The COMcheck software simplifies energy code compliance by offering a flexible computer-based alternative to manual calculations. See the COMcheck FAQs for more information.
The COMcheck-Web online code compliance tool is the web-based version of the COMcheck desktop software. It performs just like the desktop version but requires no download or installation.
Prescriptive Approach
The COMcheck Prescriptive Package Generator is a web-based application that allows you to generate your own code-compliant insulation and window packages rather than following pre-defined prescriptive packages.
Pre-defined packages that specify insulation levels and glazing U-factors based on your climate zone are available for some codes if you prefer a manual approach.
Climate Zone Maps for ASHRAE 90.1-1999 are also available.
Code Enforcement
A Field Inspection Checklist can be used to ensure that the required energy efficiency measures have been properly installed. Download Acrobat Reader.
Inspecting for the Commercial Provisions of the IECC (PDF 7.5 MB) prepared for DOE by the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO) is another good resource for energy code inspection.
Discontinued Tools
COMcheck-Plus software implements the more complicated whole-building performance approach. Our current recommendation is to identify and use other performance-based software. The Building Energy Software Tools Directory provides information on and access to several tools for evaluating energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainability in buildings.
