SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (KSL News Services) -- The FBI has opened a new crime lab to deal with crimes involving computers. The Regional Computer Forensics Lab will analyze computers that are seized in connection with a crime.

Holding up a notebook computer, Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff says computers are involved in nearly every crime. “This is the weapon of choice for probably the fastest group of criminals there are in the world today.” The lab will analyze all kinds of electronics.

US Attorney for Utah Paul Warner says crime is going digital. “Its not just the high tech crime, its also the drug dealer whose using the PDA to keep track of, we call them O sheets, who owes them money and so forth.”

The lab will also be used to investigate terrorism. State and local police departments will utilize the lab.
