I understand Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, makers of Premarin? and Prempro?, filed a Citizen?s Petition with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) asking the FDA to impose harmful restrictions on the compounding and dispensing of bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). This petition would eliminate the availability of compounded bio-identical hormones, which are prescribed by healthcare providers and prepared by pharmacists, to meet the unique needs of each individual patient.
If this is so, I would like to request you deny this petition. Women have been subjected to taking pharmaceutical hormones long enough. Research has shown that Premarin increases the risk for cancer. Until there are comparable studies that show BHRT has the same consequences, I want to be able to take them. I feel it's healthier for me since my mother has had breast cancer. She was taking premarin after a hysterectomy and developed breast cancer. Her physician took her off Premarin.
Please don't let the 'profit motive' of big pharmaceutical companies dictate women's health. Thank you.
