GENERAL
I oppose Wyeth Pharmaceutical's attempts, via their 'Citizens Complaint' filed with the FDA, to take away my right to choose safe, effective and natural, bio-identical hormones, and its attempts to narrow my choice of health treatments. As a consumer, a health care professional and an educator in natural alternatives in wellness, I strongly urge the FDA to refuse to prohibit compounding pharmacies from providing bio-identical hormones to their patients. Since the 2002 Women's Health Initiative (WHI) which demonstrated that
Wyeth's products, Premarin and Prempro, caused a significant increase in breast cancer, blood clots to the lungs, heart attacks and strokes, Wyeth has seen a dramatic decline in the sales of these counterfeit hormones. This company is clearly attempting, through its 'Citizens Complaint' process, to manipulate the FDA to collude with it in the protection of its bottom line. This is not, nor should it ever be, the role of the FDA. Every woman in this country should have the right to opt for a natural alternative to any drug therapy, and should never be forced out of that option by any governmental agency, drug company, or unholy alliance of the two. In this country, we uphold the virtues of competition in a free market. If synthetic drugs can compete with natural alternatives in the marketplace, let them do so; if they cannot, let their profits decline; but no drug company should be able to use this process to gain an unfair advantage in a free marketplace.
