Governmentwide Management Initiative
The Department of Labor (DOL) is responsible for promoting the welfare of America’s job seekers, wage earners and retirees. The Department promotes safe and healthful working conditions, the payment of minimum hourly wage and overtime pay, free and open collective bargaining, freedom from employment discrimination, and is responsible for unemployment insurance, skills development, protection of retirement and health care benefits for retirees, and the collection and analysis of nationwide employment data.
A top priority under the President’s Management Agenda’s Expanded Electronic Government (E-Gov) initiative is modernizing and streamlining program and business processes through the application of state-of-the-art technology. The Department of Labor has embraced the E-Gov initiative and with the support and involvement of senior management, is implementing it across the spectrum of its activities.
These efforts have resulted in quality citizen service, improved coordination within the Department, enhanced collaboration with other Federal agencies and improved mission capabilities. The Department’s five specific E-Gov initiatives for the Department are:
