ARCURI VISITS LOCAL SMALL BUSINESS

Washington, DC -- U.S. Representative Michael A. Arcuri recently visited Hummel’s Office Plus, a family-owned area leader in office supplies and furniture.  His visit emphasized the importance of small businesses in Central New York.

“Local small businesses, like Hummel’s Office Plus, are the backbone of our economy here in the Mohawk Valley,” said Arcuri. “The Hummel story serves as an example of our capacity to build, retain, and foster the growth of local small businesses. In Washington, I have worked to help small businesses access loans, reduce the tax burden and keep highly skilled workers here in Upstate New York. I will continue to work with businesses like Hummel’s and do what is best to grow our economy.”

Arcuri was greeted by Chip Hummel, President, and members of the Hummel’s Vice President and Managerial team.  After light refreshments, the group toured the corporate offices and warehouse, educating Arcuri on how Hummel’s Office Plus services their Central New York customer base.   Hummel’s Office Plus serves customers in a 100 mile radius around Mohawk with its fleet of 14 trucks.

With a handshake, Chip Hummel thanked Arcuri for his visit.

Earlier this year, Arcuri voted for the Small Business Fairness in Contracting Act (H.R. 1873) to increase opportunities for small businesses to compete for federal government contracts. He also voted from the Small Business Administration Entrepreneurial Development Programs Act of 2007 (H.R. 2359) to ensure regulations are up-to-date with the current business climate
 
Since taking office in January, the House of Representatives has passed, with Arcuri’s strong support, numerous pro-small business measures including $4.84 billion in tax relief for small business owners, and the Small Business Lending Improvements Act, which provides small businesses with tools to encourage entrepreneurial innovation.
